Kids Open Day

Kids Open Days are back for Autumn half-term on Wednesday 28th October 10:30–15:30.

Join us for a fun-packed day of Halloween-themed activities, exploration, and hands-on experiences to keep your little ones occupied during the school holiday!

Tickets: £12 Children | £5 Adults | Under 3s Free
Please note: this special event is not included in Annual Pass tickets, as it includes a range of hands-on activities with additional material and staffing costs.

Discover three unique displays, each offering something different to explore:

  • Main Exhibition – Fascinating stories and interactive displays on the making of gunpowder

  • Rocket Vault – Admire over 50 years of British Rocketry

  • 1940s Display – Step back in time and see what life was like during the Second World War

Take a ride and experience the charm of our gunpowder railway—always visitor favourites!

🎨 Get Creative with Drop-In Activities
We've got lots of spooky-themed activities to try:
✨ Spooky slime making – get creative and make your very own Halloween-inspired slime
🏮 Colourful Guy Fawkes-inspired lanterns – create your own colourful lantern to take home, inspired by the history and traditions of Bonfire Night
🎃 Spooky tie-dye – make a Halloween-inspired T-shirt using our tie-dye materials. Please bring a plain white cotton T-shirt for your child to decorate.
👻 Blow-painted ghost art – get creative with this fun and spooky art activity

There’s something for everyone—come curious, leave inspired!

Our cafe open for coffee, tea and more treats. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy in our green spaces.

Children must always be accompanied by a parent/guardian when on site.
