Step back in time at Royal Gunpowder Mills for a VE Day–themed Home Education Day with a difference!
Join us as we mark the month of May and the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, exploring life on the WWII Home Front through immersive, hands-on learning.
Meet a WWII ARP warden and discover their role during air raids, blackouts, and the Blitz with a tour of our newly refurbished 1940s display.
Themed hands-on activities include:
Investigating an evacuee suitcase, then your home learner can pack their own paper version and get ready for evacuation!
Design your own VE Day bunting in our creative workshop — designs will be displayed at our 1940s Weekend, with a prize for the best design.
Try your hand at blitz fire-fighting and marching like the Home Guard in WWII-inspired drills.
Explore additional exhibitions and displays across the site at your own pace for a flexible, family-friendly learning day.
