Joe was previously the Director of The Cartoon Museum from 2020 - 2025, having previously held roles at the Natural History Museum, RAF Museum London and Brooklands Museum, along with several other engagement and learning roles at UK museums.

Serena was previously the Manager of Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service and has worked in various roles for English Heritage, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and other regional museums and visitor attractions, after a career in the Education sector.

Lorraine Matthews, Administrator
Before joining the Gunpowder Mills, Lorraine worked in primary education both in learning and administrative roles and previously as an administrator for a large financial securities company in London.

Julia Ryan, Business Development Officer
Julia has worked on events at Gunpowder Mills for several years, and previously worked as a consultant and trainer in Education Governance and in assessing Customer Experience across a number of sectors, including heritage. She was also a civil servant in the Ministry of Defence.

Sophie Jacobs, Learning & Vistor Experience Officer
Sophie has several years of teaching experience in primary schools, most recently Firs Farm Primary school. Previously she worked and volunteered at the Museum of Childhood (now the Young V&A) and other heritage sites.

Luke has over a decade of volunteer experience at the Gunpowder Mills, where he's developed a strong understanding of visitor experience and operations. With a background in customer-facing roles, team leadership, and operations, Luke is dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences and maintaining high standards.

Liz Went, Volunteer Resources Manager
Liz started as ‘Volunteer Development Manager’ at RGM in 2005 and has been involved in various aspects of running the Mills through her years here.

Lizzie Ross, Learning Officer
Lizzie is a former primary school teacher who moved into museum education over 10 years ago and has worked at various heritage venues including in the Education Service at the Houses of Parliament and at the National Justice Museum.

Tamsyn Howes, Fundraiser
Tamsyn is a freelance fundraising consultant with over 25 years’ experience helping charities and cultural organisations, large and small, diversify and grow income from fundraising and develop compelling projects and partnerships that deliver lasting impact. Tamsyn was Head of Fundraising for the National Trust in the South West for 10 years before setting up her own consultancy.
