Through storytelling, discussion and interactive activities, pupils will learn about the famous plot to blow up Parliament, the people involved and why we remember these events every year on 5th November.

Pupils will enjoy making and using paper puppets to bring the story of the Gunpowder Plot to life through storytelling and role play. Acting out the key events helps children remember the characters, sequence the story and develop confidence in speaking and listening.

During a visit to our Main Exhibition, pupils will explore interactive displays to discover how gunpowder was made at the Royal Gunpowder Mills and why it was so important throughout history. As they explore, pupils will become the King's Guards, helping to protect King James I by keeping a careful lookout for the 36 hidden barrels of gunpowder throughout the exhibition.

The day finishes with a bang! Pupils will safely experience a live gunpowder demonstration, discovering the sights, sounds, smells and power of gunpowder. It's a memorable finale that brings their learning to life and rounds off an unforgettable day at the Gunpowder Mills.
